Sound healing, what is it!? It seems to be getting more and more popular, what the deal? Is it just listening to nice sounds? How can it heal us?! It all sound a bit woo surely? OK so just think back to your GCSE physics class for a minute, do you remember all the Einstien stuff-everything is made up of atoms? Little tiny molecules of energy. Well that’s the basis of sound healing, this idea of energy. So our body, our organs, every cell in our bodies are made up of molecules then even smaller than that atoms and even smaller than that scientist now know about the tiniest particles known as quark. So all of this matter is constantly in a state of vibration. For the body to be functioning well and all of it’s cells and organs to be in harmony there are various frequencies that the cells should vibrate at-different speeds if you like. OK where does sound come into it? So in physics there is a rule known as entrainment. The law of entrainment is the basis of sound healing therapy. When applied to the human body. The physics law of entrainment shows us that a strong and powerful vibrating force can influence a weaker vibrating force. So through sound we can bring the vibration of our cells back to the state they are meant to be vibrating at. Each Chakra has a different frequency associated with it. Entrainment is something we do as beings unconsciously, if we pick up on a certain “vibe” of somebody we change ourselves accordingly. If somebodies vibration is high they are a positive, energising person to be around and we feel energised by them. Likewise if somebody is low they can drain our energy if we are around them for too long. There are so many studies upon the healing benefits of sound. It is being used more widely in treatments and therapies in health care now which is great to see. But our ancestors knew about all of this thousands of years ago, the power of singing or chanting together and the uplifting effects of music-it’s all sound healing! As you can tell I’m super passionate about the subject, if you’ve never tried a sound bath before, open your mind up to it and give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised at how powerful it can be! We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings 7pm at Woodfalls Methodist hall for yoga, rest and sound, it’s a great way to have a go if a full hour seems too much, all we do is find a comfortable position perhaps lying down and let the sound bowls do the rest!
