Wintergreen (Gaultheria Procumbens) Essential Oil
With its refreshing scent and many health benefits. I’m happy to be stocking Wintergreen as an aid to use in your practice on and off the mat. You can either choose to purchase the pure essential oil from me for diffusing but will need diluting to be used upon the skin (2 drops per teaspoon.) Or you can select the muscle oil which is pre-blended with sweet almond oil in a 30ml dropper bottle ready to use on tired muscles.
More about Wintergreen’s benefits:
- Natural Decongestant-helps to clear nasal passages and promote easier breathing. Its crisp, minty aroma can help alleviate congestion related to colds, allergies, and sinus issues.Pain relief: Known for its analgesic properties, it contains an aspirin-like chemical called methyl salicylate particularly beneficial in soothing muscle aches, joint pain, and discomfort. Applying a diluted solution of Wintergreen oil to the affected area can provide rapid relief from pain.
- Soothes headaches and migraines- applying it diluted to the temples or back of the neck, it can help reduce headache intensity and frequency.
- Digestive Aid- Its carminative properties help to reduce gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort. A massage with diluted Wintergreen oil on the abdomen can stimulate digestive processes and relieve digestive issues.
This is a powerful oil and as such there are some precautions to consider before use:
Due to the presence of methyl salicylate, wintergreen essential oil should not be used with individuals on anticoagulant medication or who are just about to have a major surgery. Topically applied methyl salicylate can potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, causing side effects such as internal hemorrhage. Individuals with bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia, should not use wintergreen essential oil.
Wintergreen essential oil is best used on adults and externally only.
We do not recommend the use of wintergreen on children under the age of 12-14.
Wintergreen should NOT be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Methyl salicylate penetrates quickly through the skin.
Individuals with salicylate sensitivity (often applied in ADD/ADHD) should avoid the use of wintergreen essential oil.
When using please ensure you wash hands after use. Product is for external use only, keep away from eyes.
