SAHASWARA “thousand petaled”-Crown Chakra

This chakra is pure consciousness energy, It’s pretty hard to explain but I’ll give it a go!

Think of it like magnetism. When you hold a piece of metal to a magnet, you can feel the energy and tension, but you can’t see it. Consciousness energy is everywhere and in everything. It connects us to the entire universe.

Our own personal consciousness is located in the 7th chakra, but it’s really more like the seed of a universal energy than something personal or individual-you don’t own it its part of the bigger picture.

The crown chakra’s associated colour is White. And if you hadn’t guessed from the name it is at the top of your head. It extends down to between your eyes (brow chakra) and then extends infinitely upward and outward, connecting you to the energy of the rest of the universe. Pretty awesome hey!

A balanced crown chakra is the goal of every spiritual warrior, and it’s very hard to do-think of it as the Buddhist concept of achieving nirvana. You’re not really human anymore – you’ve conquered suffering and death. Think HP in The Deathly Hallows.

Like so much in yoga it’s not so much destination that matters it’s the journey. Attempting to achieve this balance is what brings us happiness, good health, and wisdom. Trying to balance your 7th chakra will align and balance your other chakras.

You can’t have an overactive crown chakra as it is your hub of universal energy, it is infinite. Basically, you can’t exist in the material world and be overcome with consciousness energy. Connecting with this chakra will enable you to be spiritually alive and connected.

An underactive 7th chakra means you’re human! Some people may be closer to opening their crown chakra, while others may be far away. In any case, practicing spiritual development and balancing your other chakras will bring you closer to experiencing the consciousness energy in your crown chakra.

Instead of attempting to open up your crown chakra, focus on balancing the other 6 chakras. (See all my posts this week!) Meditate and connect with spirit and balance those activities with living and enjoying your human experience.

Salamba sirsasana-Headstand with my favourite yoga Buddy

Yoga Poses we can do to stimulate:

-Salamba sirsasana-the king of poses or Head stand-helps bring blood and energy to the crown of your head quite literally and benefits this chakra as well. It also stimulates both the pineal and pituitary glands.

-Savasana-corpse pose-this can often be the hardest pose-giving silence and meditation for the crown chakra.

-Half lotus-ardha padmasana again this pose incorporates meditation upon theme of the lotus rising.
